Columbine Eastern Red Aquilegia Canadensis is a herbaceous perennial native to woodlands of eastern and central North America. If Eastern Red Columbine seeds are planted directly outdoors in spring, the cold treatment prior sowing will help germination. Also called Canadian or Canada Columbine, and Wild Columbine, this wildflower has attractive foliage with lobbed blue-green leaves, and its showy, bell-like, red flowers with a yellow center and petals are rich in nectar and highly attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees.

Columbine Eastern Red is a popular garden flower, because it is a hardy, long-leaved perennial that also re-seeds itself easily. Canada Columbine looks fabulous in mass planting, woodland gardens, and adds a lot of charm to rock or alpine landscapes. Aquilegia Canadensis seeds can be started outdoors in late fall early winter, and this Columbine is grown best in full sun or partial shade and moist, but well drained soil.
