BLAZING STAR GAYFEATHER [ Liatris Spicata ] is easy to grow, but must have full sun, sharp drainage, and time. The stiff, cylindrical spike is heavily concentrated with deep rose-purple flowers. The blooms begin to open from the terminal end of the spike and slowly descend toward the base. Drought tolerance is an especially desirable trait that Liatris species offer. Their water-retentive corms allow them to persist in lean, dry times.

BLAZING STAR GAYFEATHER [ Liatris Spicata ] has upright form that takes up minimal space and is suitable for even the smallest garden. It is equally great at home and in large, established perennial borders, where its thin, tall, airy floral wands create a mesmerizing "pop-up" effect. The vertical nature of the beautiful spikes of purple flowers on Liatris Spicata is beautiful in both the formal flower garden and prairie meadow.

The plant is excellent as a cut flower.
