Brussel Sprouts Long Island [ Brassica Oleracea ] is heirloom semi-upright, compact, 2 feet tall plant with dark green, tight 1 1/2 inch heads. Miniature cabbage-like heads are tasty and nutritious, and a lot of firm sprouts are produced over an extended season. Good for freezing. For an early crop start seeds indoors in earliest spring. Sow seeds in flats or individual peat pots, cover seed with 1/8 inch fine soil. For a later fall-winter crop, sow seeds directly outdoors or start indoors by midsummer. Direct seed in the garden 3-4 months before the first frost in the fall. Set plants out 18 inches apart.
