Kale Red Russian [ Brassica Oleracea ] is a heirloom kale that is also called Ragged Jack and will add beautiful color to your fall garden, with leaf veins and stems that turn red in cold weather. They are shaped like the leaves on an oak tree and are very tender. Can also be grown as a spring crop. Add to soups when mature and use as a salad ingredient when young and tender. Hardier than cabbage and excellent for winter or early spring greens. The flavor is improved by frost. Plant from middle April to June and enjoy the leafy greens all winter and even into the next spring.
