Carrot Danvers [ Daucus Carota ] is a heirloom variety for shallow soils.  The roots are uniformly sized, 5-6 inch long and 2 inch wide with a deep orange color.  Excellent for a main crop and stores well.  Produces well in moist deeply worked soils. Seed directly into vegetable garden from as soon as soil is workable and cover seeds with 1/8 inch soil.  When plants are 2-4 inches tall, thin to 2 to 3 inches apart. Rows can be spaced 15-18 inches apart, or much closer if limited for space. In beds space 2-4 inches apart in all directions.  The carrot is an ideal vegetable for eating fresh or cooked. Nice to use in salads, soups, stews or as a garnish.
