Eggplant Black Beauty [ Solanum Melongena ] is a heirloom  excellent bell shaped eggplant that is  5 inches long.  The vigorous plant grows 2 feet tall and bears purple-black eggplants that weigh 1-3 lbs and hold their quality well in storage.  One of the most popular eggplant varieties, this variety is known for its large, plump, deep purplish-black fruits.  Delicious fried, in casseroles and several ethnic dishes. Plant is ornamental enough to use in the flower garden, and the palnt is also good  in containers. Begin seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before planning to set out. Eggplant is a warm-weather crop, so wait until after danger of frost before transplanting seedlings into the sunny garden. Set 18 inches apart.
