Foxglove Excelsior Mix [ Digitalis Purpurea ] is one of the amazing, most important plant species that has been introduced from Europe and naturalized in various parts of North America. This is a large, very colorful plant that does extremely well in shade. Foxglove has flowers in shades of white, yellow, pink, rose, red, lavender and purple with conspicuous spots interlining the throat of the tubular flower.
Foxglove Excelsior Mix [ Digitalis Purpurea ] is a biennial, so it leaves form a rosette the first year followed by the flower spike the next year. Foxgloves are of easy culture and make excellent cut flowers if picked when the blooms are half open. But their real strength is as dramatic and richly colored vertical accents, a look that is impossible to duplicate with another genus. The plant self-seeds under favorable growing conditions, and can establish colonies in the garden that will persist for years as if they were perennials. Plant leaves are a source of the drug digitalis and are highly poisonous. Enjoy, but do not eat!
The plant attracts hummingbirds.
The plant is good as a cut flower.
