Lettuce Butterhead Bulletcrunch [ Lactuca Sativa ] is an open pollinated slow bolting, long standing, bibb butterhead type of lettuce taht is 1 foot in diameter. Does well in all seasons. Has red-tinged 4.5 inches thick, dark green, blistered leaves. An old favorite for both the home garden and fresh market growers. Small, loosely folded heads with tender leaves. The interiors are blanched to creamy white at maturity. It has a mild buttery flavored taste. The broad green leaves are delicious, but the best part is the heart of loosely folded leaves and thick, crisp, tender ribs. Excellent for salads and garnishes. Direct seed in spring or fall. Allow plenty of space between plants for larger heads. Prefers rich, moist soil. For the most tender and crisp flavor, lettuce should be grown quickly and harvested as soon as they are ready. Plantings may be made in succession about 3 weeks apart.
