Lettuce Looseleaf Black Seeded Simpson [ Lactuca Sativa ] is heirloom and one of the most popular loose leaf lettuces with large, light green, very tender, crumpled leaves. It is a very popular long favored variety, fixture in North American gardens for over a hundred years. The interior leaves blanch to almost white. A vigorous grower that forms quickly into a large upright plant that stands heat, drought and some frost. Sow inside six weeks before last frost and in summer when outside temperatures are too warm for the seeds to germinate. Sow outside in early Spring, 3 to 4 weeks before last frost, and successive plantings every 3 weeks.
