Pheasant's Eye Adonis Vernalis is a hardy herbaceous perennial native to Eurasia where it grows in various regional sectors, from Spain all the way to Western Siberia. Pheasant's Eye seeds have to be sown on the soil surface or not deeper than 1/8 of inch and kept moist until germination occurs. Also commonly called Spring Adonis, Spring Pheasant's Eye, Yellow Pheasant's Eye and False Hellebore, Adonis Vernalis is an early blooming flower that emerges in April featuring feathery, very fine, fern-like, dark green leaves with buds on top, and its very showy, saucer-shaped, 2-3 inches in diameter, 20 petals, bright yellow flowers appear in May and into June. The Yellow Pheasant's Eye flowers attract various pollinator including bees and butterflies.
Pheasant's Eye is stunning, bushy, tussock forming plant that is just perfect for adding a pop of color to any garden, and makes a great addition to rock gardens, natural gardens, or steppe-like gardens, and this beautiful perennial can be grown as a container or pot plant too. As with many hardy perennial seeds, Adonis Vernalis seeds need a cold stratification period of 4 to 6 weeks. Once established, Spring Adonis requires very little care, preferring light to heavy, well-drained soil and growing best in full sun or partial shade tolerating drought. Spring Pheasant's Eye plant is not susceptible to most diseases and pests except slugs.
