Rock Jasmine Alpine Androsace Alpina is a small perennial subshrub native to the subalpine and subarctic regions of Europe. Rock Jasmine Alpine seeds can be started indoors or directly outdoors in fall, and these seeds must be covered very thinly to about the depth of the seed size to ensure germination. Androsace Alpina features foliage with tiny tongue-shaped leaves that appear in crowded rosettes forming cushions of two or three inches high and blooming with flowers, one from each rosette, rosy-purple with a yellow center, and the wonderful showy flowers can be so densely packed that they completely shade the foliage.
Rock Jasmine Alpine is is cultivated widely as an ornamental plant for the rock and alpine garden because of its abundance of miniature flowers. Androsace Alpina seeds have to be cold stratified if they are started indoors. The established Rock Jasmine Alpine requires bright, direct sunlight and cool temperatures to thrive preferring moderate humidity, and it has to be watered sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out almost completely between watering. The soil for Androsace Alpina should be well-drained and composed of loam with good aeration, because it is important to avoid waterlogged conditions, as the plant is susceptible to root rot. A rocky or gritty soil mix is ideal to mimic its natural habitat.
